Milton Keynes Liberal Democrats say the Tories are “in disarray” over MK2050 – the strategy for the city’s future.
The Strategy sets out the vision for Milton Keynes’ future, and cross-party support for its success is crucial, say the Lib Dems.
However, at Wednesday’s Council meeting, the Tories split three ways when it came to vote on the strategy; some voted against, others for, and some abstained entirely.
The Strategy was passed, but Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Douglas McCall has some questions for the Tory Group.
“Just what is the future direction for the city supported by the Conservative Group, as they appear to be going in three different directions?” asks Cllr McCall.
“We believe that the future growth of the city should be planned here by us in Milton Keynes, not by developers or national government.”
We want the rest of the country to be able to look to Milton Keynes as a shining example of just how great supported, planned growth can be.”
We believe this strategy makes our great city greater. We are at the centre of the Oxford – Cambridge Arc, with a great future ahead of us.”
Sadly, it seems the Tories are in disarray. I urge not only the Conservative Group, but our two MPs to come together to support the Strategy. Our residents deserve to know that all councillors are agreed on the future of our city.”Leave a comment
