Subhan Shafiq resigns as a councillor

by Douglas McCall on 19 November, 2014

Former Councillor Subhan Shafiq.

Former Councillor Subhan Shafiq.

Statement by Subhan Shafiq

I have now had the opportunity to consider the Council’s internal report and feel the time is right to respond.

Let me be clear, I accept the content of the report and I wholeheartedly support the recommendations it makes. Importantly, I wish to publicly apologise for any distress my actions have caused.

I have thoroughly enjoyed serving Milton Keynes as a councillor and as Mayor and would like to thank those who have supported me.

But the recent months have also put pressure on my family, including my young children, my close sincere friends and myself.

It is for that reason that I am resigning as a Councillor with immediate effect.

I will not be making any further comment at this time and ask that my privacy and that of my family is respected.

Yours Sincerely

Subhan Shafiq

I would like to realise more about your work as a councillor and ask you how you got into the lib dems and what motivated you to become a councillor?

    • We are all motivated by different things to join the Party and to become a councillor. They include determination to make a difference for our community, support of the Party’s philosophy or policies, or because we admire the hard work of someone we know who is already a Lib Dem.
